If you missed tracking words on a given day, there is a way to go back and retroactively log your word count on the main NaNoWriMo website. Here's what you can do in just nine easy steps!
- Start on your dashboard: https://nanowrimo.org/dashboard
- Click on the name of your novel
- Once inside this year's project, look for the tab right above your book cover that says "Goals". Click on that.
- Under the "Goals" tab, click on the name of your project (probably "NaNoWriMo 2024" if you are doing this year's official challenge)
- On the next screen, you will see a left sidebar. Look at the square box that says "Progress Updates"
- On the top-right section of that box, click "+ Add New Update"
- A box that says "New Project Update" will pop up. Populate the correct number of words for a given day in the "Words This Session Box"
- n the box for the date, click a date in the past and a time range that fully occurs on that date (so no end times after 12AM; that will confuse our system)
- Hit "Save Progress" and the words you put in will be logged to the day you choose.
Congratulations! You've done it. Now you will be able to see your streak correctly on the graph and get credit for writing every day. And sorry we lied about those nine steps being "easy". We love that you can do this, but it's all a bit clunky, yet another reason for us to have our sights on a major tech update, and an interface that makes this a lot easier!
Final note: this advice is for the NaNoWriMo website only, not the Young Writers Program website.
